Dear Fellow SWFF-ers No posts here, so maybe I can get the ball rolling!! Kings and queens on the fly are some of the best fun to be had on the Persian/Arabian Gulf coast, IMHO. I still haven't figured out PhotoBucket (sorry Sunny!), but, until I do here's a quick shot of a queen caught on fly a few months ago (kayak). Will try and upload kings on fly later! I very rarely photograph queens as all are usually released boat-side, and they suffer if not unhooked very quickly. Medium/large queens taste like Pedigree Chum, so if you've not had one before, I recommend you release asap - chew on a Rapala instead - much tastier! Anyway, chased a few queen shoals in Dubai on the 'yak for several hours one morning just after Christmas, and failed on the fly, apart from one bump - in frustration resorting to rapalas and trolled deadbaits to get bent ! Then had a few, including one cracker of around 7kg However, the fly fishing remains my default mode when conditions are right......the failure, the challenge..... and then the occasional success........ so sweet! If you are new to SWFF, and wondering where to start, though I am certainly no expert, my recommendation would be a 9 or 10 WT set up. That will deal with most eventualities on the Gulf Coast, and the dorado on the East. Flats/beach work for smaller species a 6/7 WT is nicer, but if I had to choose one set up the former would be what I would go for. Tight lines all in 2013! Attachments:

Cracking fish BTF.... even without photobucket. Some good information in there too, on rods; thanks. I can see the attraction and the sense of acheivement of SWFF over 'just catching'..... totally agree, otherwise we weould all be using gillnets ! I have to say that you must be brave laying a Queen over your legs like that.....the darn things have more spikey spines than a hedgehog
