A big welcome to the forum.
I have lived in Dubai since August 2012.
I hope you enjoy reading about my fishing adventures and if you get time - to do some blogs - then I would really like to hear about your fishing exploits here or elsewhere.
I have been angling since the mid 1970s and it is my total passion. I have fished freshwater, but my true passion is for sea angling.
I fish both shore and from boats. I own a 12 foot dinghy (on its way here to Dubai) and a in the UK have a Raider 18.
Hope to meet you guys when I'm out and about on the beaches, sea walls and when afloat
Tight lines Nick

Good luck with the forum Sunny! Nice to see a new angle (sorry!) to fishing here, with the emphasis on float-fishing... could be the next big thing!

Good luck with the forum Sunny! Nice to see a new angle (sorry!) to fishing here, with the emphasis on float-fishing... could be the next big thing! It is driven by my only having brought float rods with me to the UAE The rest of my tackle (rods of all weight classes) are in the container ....which according to the AIS tracker is now off the coats of Italy; enroute to the Suez Canal

I use popping corks a lot. they work. They are not available here, but here's a link to a picture of one

Hi Kit, interesting, are you trolling them from boat/kayak, or retrieving from shore, also is it a lure or live-bait on the business end?. I tried popping a deadbait across the surface a couple of days ago in overcast and rough weather, it got hit almost immediately, my drag was ultra loose and the run caught me by surprise, end result, I didn't set the hook, it certainly got the adrenaline flowing. Welcome aboard.

Big welcome to the forum Kit....great chatting to you last night mate....I can see that we are going to spend many hours talking angling and hopefully many more fishing together.
Like all of us on here.... Kit is a committed C&R anglers, who take the odd (common species) for the plate.
Looking forward to some of your blogs Kit, looking at the photos of your catches has got me dreaming of tight lines and monster fish :-)
I think we will have to arrange a group meet soon..... be great to get together
Cheers Nick

Hi guys...took me some time to get back here. Dom, the popping cork is casted out and allowed to sit, then you pop it once in a while to attract attention to the bait or soft plastic hanging down via a length of leader under the brass bead side of the float. (in the image, it is at the top of the picture). It works real well especially if you need to fish slower and when the fish are a bit fussy. Since the bait or lure is dangled in the strike zone, the chance of getting a fish to bite is quite high. Makes for some fun because of the visual strike with the bobber going down. Nick, yea, we need to get a trip together soon!!!

The popper is nothing like anything I have tried before....top marks for innovation. I can see applications for it.
Last trip out I tried something new, a flounder spoon set at the end of the nylon leader, above the wire hook trace. It sits some 9-12 inches upline from the deadbait. I let Adnan use it on his rod and it totally outfished my plain rig !!!!
